Hello all,

Ok, this group has gone from being (relatively) active to dead to
spammed by a bunch of
unreadable trash posts. Has comp.lang.oberon been targetted for this?
Or is this spam
hitting a lot of other newsgroups as well?

Regards,

I am also following some other newsgroups such as comp.lang.modula2 and
comp.lang.modula3 which are as (relatively) active as comp.lang.oberon but
are not spammed at all. I am also wondering if there is a possibility to
stop these messages?

I see the occasional English-langauge spam messages here (e.g. the WOW ones)
but not the Chinese ones. I've just looked in Google Groups and can see the
ones that John referred to. Maybe my ISP is filtering out the obvious junk?
Oberon certainly seems to be much more popular amongst the spammers than the
other newsgroups I monitor. This includes some comp.lang.pascal as well as
modula2. I've always suspected that's why Oberon followers set up their own
mailing lists? e.g. ETH mailing list, Blackbox mailing list, POW! (Yahoo
groups), GPCP (Yahoo groups) etc. A pity as the casual observer here might
mistakenly conclude not much was happening in the Oberon world.

Perhaps these groups are moderated, in which case the moderator just
deletes the spam and others don't see it.

Cheers,
Stewart
