Hallo Leute !
Ich kann leider kein Englisch schreiben.
You read my english and I'll read you 'Deutsch' ?
Ich suche daher Leute, die mit mir auf Deutsch A¼ber Oberon diskudieren.
Besonders A¼ber das Betriebssystem Oberon wie Native Oberon,
Win Oberon und Bluebottle.
I'm a 'heavy duty' N-O [Native Oberon] user, and can answer most
questions. Because I need to USE N-O every day, I'm not keen to
break my routine to experiment with Bluebottle.
Besides, I don't know that Bluebottle can do anything usefull
which N-O can't do.

Because of the rapid developments of inet, eg. new http 'formats',
N-O can't keep up [bei halten ?]. Also the NewsReader which I'm
using now for this post is not 'threaded'. So for high-usage News
there are problems.

It seems that these problems are now [yesterday !] solved with
the relaese of Linux Oberon [which keeps the good 'look & feel'
of N-O] but allows [during the same session/boot] use of all the
fancy inet facilities which linux provides.

Also my [ver from 2001] N-O doesn't handle USB, which Linux does.
The idea is to use the superb N-O I/O interface for the text files
and have Linux do what N-O can't manage. eg. if you get a
*.pdf file, linux will do 'pdf2txt' and then N-O can do the special
work eg. WYSIWYG fast colouring/font-change of selected text.
This is like have a muti-coloured Koki-pen to mark the text while
reading/analysing it. It's very effective [for me] to absorb written
text.

Is there a recent release of Linux Oberon available for download? If
so, I would appreciate the location where I can obtain one.

Cheers,
Venkat

Yes - see the thread titled 'ANN, Unix Oberon ports, release 2.4.3' dated
7th May 2006 for the anouncement, download details, change list and related
discussions in the Oberon mailing list archives:

https://lists.inf.ethz.ch/pipermail/oberon/

You can join the mailing list at the ETH Oberon support page:

This is a 'test post' re. new linux ETH-oberon: my first News reply
'under' linux ETH-oberon. In that I've got lEo running and am using
linux's inet facilities. The ideas is to use ETH-obreon's superior
text processing facilities [the human aspect] together with linux's
mature internet facilities, on the same box - together.

ETH-oberon [N-O] served me well for years with it's simple NewsReader,
but for larger volumes it was becoming inconvenient: no threading and
I used to have to use google to search for replies [which I'd forgotten
about]. I'm writing this with linux's 'pan': a clone of M$-Forte Agent,
which I used to like under Win3.1. It's even got spell checker.
So let's see if it posts now ?!

I've got the info: ftp URL & size on my N-O box, so I'll post it from
there, after I've checked it this post came through.
N-O's NewsAp is OK for small volume groups like this.
